A FEW THOUGHTS ON TODAYS READING...
There’s the demand by the people in Judges 19:22 of Gibeah to send out the male guest so that they might know him carnally. I was shocked to read about such open, unashamed, brazen homosexuality, especially in the context of rape. We then get to 19:25, when we read of the entire town openly raping this man's concubine all night long in the open to the point of raping her to death. We then read of the Levite's response to his dead concubine in 19:29, "When he entered his house, he took a knife, laid hold of his concubine, and divided her into twelve pieces, limb by limb, and sent her throughout all the territory of Israel." We read the response of the other tribes after receiving a body part by courier, in 20:8-10, that they would go against the people of Gibeah to repay them for this level of vileness. The tribe of Benjamin was given opportunity to give these men up due to their obvious heinous behavior, but instead in 20:13, but they chose to defend them instead.
The LGBTQ community has been catapulted to the forefront now being forced on all of our children in the school systems to be taught their history and accomplishments to the youngest of impressionable minds. This is being taught to children whose parents are largely Biblically illiterate and incapable of mounting a response to this position, other than to state that they are simply personally against it. This is the argument of moral relativism rather than adhering to moral absolutes as they are written in the Bible. Many in the secular world have no problem with homosexuality and would therefore not be terribly bothered by this. But in 2015 two undercover journalists, uncovered the grisly truth that Planned Parenthood was actually selling body parts of the babies that they aborted for profit. In one of these videos the executive who was caught on tape was laughing and joking that the profits were so great for selling these body parts that she would be able to get a Lamborghini. Later this same executive was caught again haggling over the price that she should receive per specimen, stating, "Yeah fifty's(dollars) on the low end. Fifty (per specimen) was like 14 years ago." Where is the outrage? The only conviction was to the reporter who went undercover. Planned Parenthood continues to boom, receives grants and funding from all over the place including our government.
Unfortunately, we are like the frog who slowly boils to death in the water. Our society has changed so much in the last fifteen to twenty years, but the changes are slow and gradual and undetected by the majority. As a result, the norms of our society continue to slowly move in a vastly immoral direction without notice. As these norms change, so does society's view of them. To speak against anything that the LGBTQ community now puts out is deemed hate speech and intolerant. To have drag queens reading to our children in local libraries is not a problem, with parents willingly showing how open-minded they are by actually bringing their children there. Abortion is no longer anything to hide or feel remorse about, but is even celebrated on sights like, "Shout out your abortion". We must all step back and ask ourselves, where is the moral outrage of killing the most defenseless of humans in the womb, then meticulously carving them up to extract their organs and selling them for profit. I'm sickened even writing this. I'm sorry, but as revolted as I was when I read this portion of Scripture for the first time, we now live at a time which is at least as bad, if not worse. But most don't really care. Some will state how they are not in favor of it, some have no real problem with it, many are quick to defend Planned Parenthood and prefer to attack those who make such statements. God is patient, not wanting any to perish (2 Peter 3:9), but He will not overlook what is transpiring. We must all wake from this slumber and see the morally ravished nation we find ourselves in. If we or our children simply assimilate into our culture, we and our children will be lost. Please apply what we read in Scripture to what we find ourselves living in. Please plant the seeds of the gospel to a world in dire need of the hope that it offers. Father, help us to be vessels of honor for your glory and your purposes despite the challenges of our present day culture.
